Installation Location
•
We recom m end that this air conditioner be installed properly by
qualified installation technicians in accordance w ith the Installation
Instructions provided w ith the unit.
Before installation, check that the voltage of the electric supply in your

hom e or office is the sam e as the voltage shown on the nam eplate.
•
Do not install this air conditioner w here there are fum es or flam m able
gases, or in an extrem ely hum id space such as a greenhouse.
Do not install the air conditioner w here excessively high heat-

generating objects are placed.
Electrical Requirements
1. All wiring m ust conform to the local electrical codes. Consult your
dealer or a qualified electrician for details.
2. Each unit m ust be properly grounded with a ground (or earth) wire or
through the supply wiring.
3. Wiring m ust be done by a qualified electrician.

This air conditioner is designed to give you com fortable room

conditions. Use this only for its intended purpose as described in this
Instruction Manual.

Never use or store gasoline or other flam m able vapor or liquid near the
air conditioner – it is very dangerous.
Never use an extension code w ith this air conditoner.

CAUTION

Do not turn the air conditioner on and off from the pow er m ains sw itch.
Use the m ode selector sw itch.
Do not stick anything into the air outlet of the unit. This is dangerous

because the fan is rotating at high speed.
Do not let children play w ith the air conditioner.
Do not cool or heat the room too m uch if babies or invalids are present.

Therm ostat Control
Mode Selector
The therm ostat knob is used to control the room tem perature. The unit
autom atically cycles on and off to m aintain room tem perature.
A com fortable tem perature will be m aintained in m ost room s when the
control is set to about interm ediate range.
HI HEAT provides heating with high fan speed operation.
LOW HEAT provides heating with low fan speed operation.
OFF setting stops heating or cooling operation. How ever, pow er rem ains
connected to the unit Hi FAN/ Lo FAN provides fan operation without
cooling or heating.
HI COOL provides cooling with high fan speed operation.
LO COOL provides cooling with low fan speed operation.

Operation:
NOTE
1. Set the m ode selector for fan, cooling or heating operation.
2. Set the therm ostat to the desired position. (Refer to the setting
tem perature guide above.)
3. Set the operation selector switch.
The above tem peratures are provided for reference only, and m ay differ
from the actual tem perature of the room .
How to stop the air
conditioner:
To stop the air conditioner, set the m ode selector to OFF position.
How to restart the air
conditioner:
To restart the air conditioner, set the m ode selector to desired position.
If the unit is turned off during cooling and heating, DO NOT restart it
im m ediately, as this can dam age it. Wait at least three m inutes before
starting it again.

CAUTION
Freezing Up:
If you notice that your air conditioner is not cooling as it should, it m ay
be that ice has form ed on the cooling coils. The ice blocks air flow and
stops the unit from cooling the room . This “freezing up” is a tem porary
condition that m ost often occurs at night w hen the Therm ostat is set on
the coldest setting and the Selector is set on LOW COOL.
To correct the condition set the Selector at (H or L) FAN or HIGH COOL
w ith the Therm ostat w ith turning the therm ostat knob to the opposite
direction from ”COOLER”.

Other Features
Ventilation Control
The Vent Control is located behind the front grille.
When set at CLOSE, only the air inside the room
can be circulated and conditioned. When set at OPEN,
som e indoor air can be exhausted from the room .

The Fan Switch is located under the control panel.
To reach it, you need to rem ove the front grille,
knobs and the control panel.

To Adjust the Air Direction
Rem ove the front grille to adjust the louvers side-to-side.
The direction of the heated or cooled air m ay be adjusted by rem oving
and turning the louvers around.
To change the louver direction, rem ove the front grille and 1 louver screw that
hold the louvers in place. Turn the louver section 180° (end for end), replace the
screws and replace the front grille. The textured face of the louver section m ust
be facing toward the room side.

Care and Cleaning
Front Grille & Wall Case
Control Panel
Wash the front grille and wall case finish with m ild soap or detergent and
lukewarm water.
The control panel is shipped with a protective plastic film . This film can be
left on or rem oved. To clean, use a dam p cloth and m ild detergent.
Outdoor Coil
The coil on the outdoor side of the unit should be checked periodically and
cleaned if clogged with dirt or soot from the atm osphere. If extrem ely dirty,
it m ay need to be professionally steam cleaned.
Base Pan
In som e installations, dirt or other foreign m atter m ay be blown into the
from the outside and settle in the base pan (the bottom of the unit).
Check the base pan periodically and clean it out, if necessary.
Front Grille Rem oval
(appearance m ay vary)
The front grille can be rem oval for m ore through cleaning or to m ake the
m odel and serial num bers accessible.
Air Filter
(appearance m ay vary)
The air filter behind the front grille should be checked and cleaned at least
every 30 days or m ore often if necessary.
Clean the filter with a vacuum cleaner to rem over light dust. It can also be
washed in warm , soapy water.
Condenser Coils
The coils on the weather side of the air conditioner should be checked
regularly. If they are clogged with dirt or soot they m ay be professionally
steam cleaned, a service available through your Sanyo service outlet.

Tips for Energy Saving
•
Do not
Block the air intake and outlet of the unit. If they are obstructed, the
unit w ill not w ork w ell, and m ay be dam aged.
Let direct sunlight into the room . Use sunshades, blinds or curtains. If
•
the walls and ceiling of the room are warm ed by the sun, it will take
longer to cool the room .
•
Keep the air filter clean. (Refer to “Care and Cleaning”.)
A clogged filter will im pair the perform ance of the unit.
To prevent conditioned air from escaping, keep windows, doors and any

other openings closed.
Keep the ventilator closed for econom y and m axim um cooling.
Keep outdoor condenser coil clean.
It’s best to operate your air conditioner at high speed during extrem ely

hot or cold weather.

Troubleshooting

Curtains, blinds or furniture blocking front of air conditioner will restrict air
flow.

Therm ostat Control m ay not be set high or low enough. Also, when Fan Switch
is at CYCLE, the tem perature in the room will vary m ore than when it’s at
CONTINUOUS. Turn knob to another num ber. Highest setting should provide
m axim um cooling. The lowest setting should provide m axim um heating.
Air filter dirty, should be cleaned at least every 30 days.

Room m ay have been very hot or cold when air conditioner was first turned on.
Allow tim e for it to cool down or warm up.
•

Conditioned air m ay be escaping through open furnace floor registers and cold
air returns.
Cooling coils have iced up. To m elt ice, set the Fan at high speed and the
Therm ostat Control to a lower num ber.
